Stella Makona Simiyu is a very experienced trainer in many different fields, such as Business Continuity, Information system security, Data protection, as well as in learning methods in risk management and process improvement. She collaborates with us as a Senior trainer, as part of the partnership between Certi-Trust group and sentinel Africa.

1. What is your career path ?
Ironically I did my undergraduate degree in Finance however throughout my career i have worked in several Risk Management Disciplines including Enterprie Risk Management, Business Continuity, Anti Money Laundering, Compliance and Information SEecurity. As a COO at Sentinel Africa I manage a portfolio of projects in the disciplines as stated above and drive quality in the project management approach.
2. What is your own definition of training ?
Training is the process of moving an individual from the point of lack of knowledge to knowledge. Training involves imparting knowledge to an individual while skills and expertice comes from that indviduals practice of the learned concepts.
3.How do you appreciate the evolution of teaching tools ?
Having trained as a trainer, I am now more aware of learning styles and how different people assimilate knowledge. Learners want hands on, practical and immersive techniques. Due to current fast paced lifestyle learners also need self paced techniques. Additionally organisations wish to gauge how effective the trainings have been in changing behaviours and enhancing performance. It is for that reason there has been many innovations in the offering of trainings.
4. Why did you choose to teach Business Continuity ?
As I have been a business continuity practitioner for a while and have a keen interest in business continuity, I have always loved to teach business continuity.
5. In your opinion, what are the privileges of being ISO 27001 certified ?
Having worked for and with several organisations that were ISO 27001 certified, and with the ever evolving cyber threats, being certified definately gives you more control over your information security. It also reduces the likelihood that you will suffer an attack and as well reduces the time to recover from incidents.
6. What is your advice to people who want to practice this profession ?
Risk Management is the career of the future. With more awareness on the need to have a structured way to maanage uncertinty, you can be sure that more organisations will be working to embbed risk management best practuices
